Seattle’s early dark winter nights make the perfect backdrop for these spectacular views.  Grab a thermos of warm hot cocoa and head to one of these spots full of holiday magic. Warning, these will become a MUST DO holiday traditions for the family.

Entering Leavenworth in the winter is like stepping into a storybook with the quaint Bavarian Village set among snow-covered mountains. In December, the holiday lights make this place even more magical. Rent a vacation home or hotel room and have fun in the snow. Head up to the Leavenworth Ski Hill for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. Bring your sled and find a hill. Rent snowmobiles. Bring snowshoes and explore the backcountry. Hop on a whimsical sleigh ride. Stroll the town and don’t miss the year-round Christmas shop.

Snowflake Lane

Snowflake Lane is a Bellevue holiday tradition. Experience the wonder of falling snow, dazzling lights, festive music, toy drummers, and dancers. This free nightly parade of holiday floats takes place between Bellevue Square and Lincoln Square from NE 4th to NE 8th Streets every night at 7:00 pm. Lots of free parking around. Choose your favorite spot on the sidewalk to see the show.

Garden d’Lights
Bellevue, WA

The stunning Garden d’Lights at the Bellevue Botanical Garden is an affordable family favorite. Volunteers twist over half a million sparkling lights into fanciful flowers, animals, waterfalls, and more. Plan to spend 30-40 minutes walking the one-mile path of lights.

Book your tickets for selected date/time in advance, you cannot buy them at the door. Parking is an additional $5 at the garden. Free parking is available at Wilburton Hill Park parking lot (5 minute walk).

Redmond Lights
Redmond, WA

Redmond Lights celebrates light, art, and culture with everyone in the community. During the month of December, the Downtown Park is filled with lights and art installations. Stop by on the first three Fridays in December between 6:00–9:00 p.m. to enjoy additional festivities including live entertainment, crafts, and food vendors. Kids (under 12 years old) can sign up to walk in The Kids Light Promenade which takes place Friday, December 2 — it’s free!

Google Lights
Kirkland, WA

The Cross Kirkland Corridor is the location of the holiday lights and musical display programmed by Google engineers (who will dazzle you with their programming chops). 10,000 lights will dance to holiday music. Whether you and the kids do too is up to you.

Insider Tip: There are two places where families can park for free to enjoy the display. Try the Google surface parking lot (Google Building B, 787 6th St. S.) or the first level of Google Building D (451 7th Ave. S.).

WildLanterns Life Sized Holiday Lights Animals at Woodland Park Zoo Seattle

WildLanterns at Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo, is the longest running holiday light show in Seattle. The zoo paths are lined with huge, colorful animal shaped lanterns. Walk through the themed zones from the insect world to animal lanterns from Africa, Asia and more. Make sure you book your tickets in advance for selected times (it’s not included in your daytime admission to the zoo). 

Prices vary from non-peak weekday times to peak weekend tickets with special rates for members. Head over during the weekday to avoid the crowds and start at 4:00 pm if you have young kids with an early bedtime.

WinterFest
Seattle, WA

Enjoy the sparkling lights, amusement, and entertainment at Winterfest at the Seattle Center from November 25 – December 31, 2022. The center will be lit from tree to building for all to enjoy. 

See the antique model train village, take a free digital photo with Santa Claus on top of the Space Needle, watch the fireworks display, and marvel at the International Fountain, programmed with music and a light show to get everyone in the spirit of the season. Saturdays at Westlake Park will be extra festive through the month of December, with live music, entertainment and activities for all. Bring the whole family for merry characters, festive crafts, and even an occasional snow flurry — all set against a backdrop of over 140,000 sparkling lights. Candy Cane Lane

Candy Cane Lane

Many Seattle neighborhoods go all out for the holidays. Visiting the Candy Cane Lane is probably the oldest tradition starting from the 1940s. This neighborhood is a curved street of 23 houses that are decorated every year. Enjoy one of the best old-school neighborhoods light displays, on Northeast Park Road off of 20th Avenue Northeast and Ravenna Boulevard. Crowds form every year at this beloved neighborhood. Drive through as you inch along with the rest of the cars or test your luck for parking on one of the side streets and walk in. Remember to bring your hot cocoa, hot toddy, coffee, or tea. This neighborhood is usually set up from early December to December 31.

The Olympic Manor is another neighborhood that goes all out for the holidays. Located just north of Ballard, off 85th St. and 23rd Avenue NW, these homes are lit up by its residents to  spread holiday cheer with stunning holiday lights and decorations. Take a magical stroll on the sidewalk lined streets of this Seattle neighborhood or bundle up with a warm drink and drive through to enjoy these stunning holiday displays.

ZooLights

Zoolights is another classic holiday tradition that has been running for over 35 years. Over 80,000 lights transform the Point Defiance Zoo into a colorful, magical wonderland for their annual Zoolights festival. See a giant octopus, find the giant tiger face, get your game face on at the Seahawks tree, search for Sasquatch, take a selfie with lit-up butterfly wings, or walk-through tunnels of stunning lights. Book your tickets early for your selected date/time ahead of time as last year Zoolights were sold out!

Stay in the warmth of your car while soaking in the wonder of the holidays at Fantasy Lights! It is the largest drive-through light show in the Northwest with hundreds of displays along the shore of Spanaway Lake in Spanaway Park. Tune your car radio to AM 1700 for accompanying holiday music as you cruise through the two-mile route.  Admission must be purchased online before you attend.

Tickets range from $10-$20 per vehicle, depending on the night. Discount nights are November 28–December 1 and December 26–January 1, when tickets are $10 per vehicle.

Enjoy the wonder of the holidays from the warmth of your car at The Lights of Christmas. Bask in the dazzling light displays, wave at Santa and Mrs. Claus, drop a letter to Santa in the special North Pole mailbox, and experience lots on holiday cheer. Pack your snacks and toasty hot cocoa or purchase snacks at a drive through shop there. For the full experience, tune your radio to FM 101.9 to hear the accompanying holiday music.  Allow 30 minutes to complete this drive-through.

Tickets range from $27–$32 per vehicle depending on the night. Buy your ticket and secure your spot ahead of time.

Christmas at Evergreen
Bothell, WA

A much-loved Bothell tradition, The Evergreen Christmas Light Show is a much-loved Bothell tradition. Brought to you by the Evergreen Church in Bothell, you will be amazed by the 500,000 lights dancing to music. Expect flurries every 30 minutes and take a stroll through the light tunnel. Heat lamps are available inside where you can warm up with cookies and cocoa (available for purchase) before heading back home

Everett, WA

The Evergreen Arboretum in Everett is all decked out in lights to bring some sparkle and shine to the early dark evenings of December. Special events for families take place on Saturdays, December 10th and 17th, from 4:00–6:00 p.m., in the Elves’ Workshop. Mark your calendar!
