On a hot summer day, the International Fountain at the Seattle Center draws kids of all ages. Cool down in the water or take on a little challenge of running up to the silver ball and back without getting splashed. Don’t worry about the water quality, it is all recycled and treated with three types of treatment before it ever reaches the public.

The fountain does run year round. Watch the five different water programs synchronized to music (Welcome to Seattle Center Show, Aaron Copeland’s ‘Billy the Kid,’ Duke Ellington, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, and a mix from Northwest Rock ‘n Roll legends) lasting up to 12 minutes.

Bring some extra clothes for the kids and prepare to spend the day with stops at the Space Needle, MoPop, Seattle Children’s Museum, and Artists at Play Playground. Stop at the Armory for a bite to eat.

Note to self

  • The fountain is choreographed to a variety of songs and at night, the fountain is lit up.
  • Tip: to avoid slipping, enter the fountain by way of the ramp located on the north side.
  • Wait for a while and a huge cannon of water shoots out of the center of the fountain probably 50-100 feet in the air.
Q What are the hours of the International Fountain?

The music starts at 10 am and ends at 9:00 pm. The music should be on anytime the fountain is actually operating. It shuts off between programs. The cascading waterfall is on 24 hours a day. Lighting of the International Fountain is on an astro timer, set for 30-45 minutes before sunset. Lighting will be on until the fountain goes off.
